Climbing mount Damavand and Alam-Kuh
Damavand & Alamkuh summits challenging
Alborz peak located in Alborz mountain range trailing from northern east to the west of Iran, separating northern shore from the central Iranian plateau.There are numbers of peaks in the Alborz mountain range, many of which are more than 4,000 meters high.
For the hikers, Mount Damavand ,Alamkuh and Alborz are counted and known as the most important mountaineering programs in Alborz mountain chain more than other peaks in the area. The period in between early June to early October, is the best time to hike these peaks.
There are shelters spread out around the high altitudes and around the peaks, as well as facilities needed in high altitudes. Beside a wonderful experience of hiking, along the climbing routes, you can learn about the rural life and the local people around the mountain range.
Peaks higher that 4000m
Peaks higher than 4000m can be found in two areas in the Alborz mountain chain .(Please note that this discussion excludes the Zagros Mountains of western/southern Iran that also have many groups of peaks higher than 4000 m):
1) A few peaks around the 4811 m, a good example is summit of Mt. Sabalan in northwestern Iran.
2) Depending on how you count the peaks, there are around 100 in Central Alborz.
Activities
Day 1
- Drive from Tehran to poulour village (federation camp) about 1 hour
- Drive from federation camp to Gosfandsara (3000 M) with 4WD car about 1 hour
- Trekking up to Bargasevom mountain shelter (4200 M) about 5 hours
- Overnight in mountain shelter
Day 2
- Acclimatization day
- Trekking up to 5200 frozen waterfall about 3 hours
- Return to shelter
- Overnight in mountain shelter
Day 3
- Trekking up to Damavand summit (5671 M) about 6 hours
- Return to shelter
- Overnight in shelter
Day 4
- Trekking down to Gosfandsara about 4 hours
- Drive to federation camp
- Drive to Taleghan valley (mountainous area in north west of the Tehran) about 3 hours
- Overnight in village local house
Day 5
- Rest until lunch time
- Trekking up to Domche green land ( 3400 M ) about 4 hours
- Overnight stay in tent
Day 6
- Trekking up to Hezarcham passage ( 4200 M ) about 3 hours
- Trekking down to Hesarchal highland (3800M) about 3 hours
- Overnight stay in tent
Day 7
- Trekking up to Alamkouh summit (4860 M) about 6 hours
- Return to Hesarchal
- Overnight in tent
Day 8
- Trekking down to Tangegalou (3300 M) about 2 hours
- Drive to Kelardasht town with 4WD about 1 hour
- Return to Tehran
